How to reset chronograph hands to zero
Short answer: After a knock or a battery change, the hands of a quartz chronograph can stop exactly at 12 when you reset them. With the crown pulled out, the pushers step each hand until it is back at zero.
How real watches do it
| MoonSwatch Mission to Mercury | Crown B: top = 1/10 hand, bottom = seconds. Crown C: top = minutes. |
|---|---|
| MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase — New Moon | Crown II: A picks the hand, B moves it. |
| Swatch quartz chronograph (Irony / Chrono, 1/10 s counter) | Same pattern as the planet MoonSwatch. Date also at B. |
| Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional — steel, Hesalite | Mechanical: no re-alignment at home. Reset only when stopped. |

Reset chronograph hands on most watches: 4 steps
Crown positions are numbered A / B / C, from pushed in to fully out.
- 1
Is it quartz or mechanical?
Quartz chronographs (battery) can usually be re-aligned with the crown out and the pushers. Mechanical ones can't: they need a service.
- 2
Quartz: crown out one click
Many quartz chronographs use one position per hand group.
- 3
Tap a pusher, watch which hand moves
Usually the lower pusher moves the seconds hand. Tap until it points to 12.
- 4
Next hand: other pusher or next position
Repeat for the other hands. Then push the crown in and test start, stop, reset.
